Digitupa is a free digital development and learning environment operated by PIKES in Nurmes and Juuka. It helps businesses, employees, remote workers, associations, young people and local residents develop digital skills, experiment with new technologies and turn ideas into practical solutions.
For companies, Digitupa offers an accessible way to develop digital marketing, content production, products and working methods without making major initial investments. Visitors can use digital fabrication equipment, media production facilities, remote workspaces and meeting rooms. Guidance is available when needed.

Facilities and equipment
Digipaja
Digipaja is a practical digital workspace where you can test ideas, learn new production methods and create prototypes or customised products.
The available equipment includes:
- 3D printers and a 3D scanner
- a laser cutter
- a vinyl cutter
- a textile heat press
- equipment for scanning photographs, negatives and slides
- digital design and modelling software
- cameras, microphones, lighting and other media production tools
- podcasting and livestreaming equipment
- a drone and virtual-reality equipment
Companies can use Digipaja to create prototypes, test product concepts and produce marketing materials without immediately investing in their own equipment. The facilities are also open to associations, young people, hobbyists and other local users.
Guidance is available for using the equipment safely. Digitupa also organises workshops on digital fabrication and media production.
Remote workspaces
Digitupa provides free remote workspaces in both Nurmes and Juuka. The facilities offer a peaceful and comfortable environment for remote work, studying and short-term use while visiting the region.
Nurmes remote workspaces
The Nurmes workspaces are located in the historic Kauppalantalo building. They include ergonomic furniture, fast wireless internet and workstations equipped with an external monitor, keyboard and mouse. A shared kitchen with coffee-making facilities, a refrigerator and a microwave is also available.

Juuka remote workspaces
Juuka Digitupa has six remote workstations with free internet access. The workstations include external displays, keyboards, mice and connections for screen sharing. Users also have access to a refrigerator, microwave and facilities for making coffee or tea.
The workstations are available during the opening hours of Juuka Digitupa. A separate reservation is normally not required.
Photo studios
The Digitupa photo studios provide an easy-to-use environment for producing high-quality photographs and videos without investing in your own studio equipment.
The facilities include backgrounds, professional lighting, cameras and microphones. They can be used for:
- product photography
- website and social media content
- promotional videos
- company and staff portraits
- association presentations
- personal and creative projects
The Nurmes photo studio can be booked in advance. The Juuka photo studio is available during Digitupa opening hours and at other times by arrangement.
Audio and podcast studios
The Nurmes audio studio offers facilities for recording podcasts, music, voice-overs, advertisements and other audio content. Users can also edit and finalise recordings in the studio.
The studio is suitable for businesses, associations, young people, musicians and anyone interested in learning the basics of audio production. It provides access to quality recording equipment without the need for personal investment.
Juuka Digitupa has a combined photo and podcast studio. It can be used for professional-quality podcasts, interviews, voice-overs and other spoken content.
Practical training and workshops
Digitupa organises free, hands-on training and workshops for companies, associations and other local participants. The emphasis is on practical learning and skills that can be used immediately in business, work or everyday life.

Digikeskus ja etätyötilat Nurmekseen ja Juukaan -project
Digitupa activities are developed through the Digikeskus ja etätyötilat Nurmekseen ja Juukaan -project, co-funded by the European Union.
The project develops digital learning evironments and remote workspaces that are open to businesses, employees, associations and local residents. Its purpose is to make new technologies and digital skills more accessible throughout the region.
The project supports entrepreneurship and local services through digitalisation. Particular attention is given to farms and rural businesses, which are offered training in digital production, business management and marketing.
The work is based on the Smart Village approach, in which rural communities develop digital solutions suited to their own needs.
Digikeskuksen investoinnit -project
The investments enable the project to be implemented in full and focus on developing the Digital Centre and remote workspaces in Nurmes.
Juuan digikeskuksen investoinnit -project
The Juuka Digital Centre Investment Project is managed by the Municipality of Juuka. It funds investments in the development of Digitupa and remote workspaces in Juuka.
